Tea Tourism
Tea in India is just not another drink it would not be any exaggeration to say that it is our national drink and many a ideas have germinated and storms blew over a innocuous cup of tea. It is no surprise that India is and remains one of the largest Tea producers in the world. Being home to number of tea estates, Tea tourism in India has also spread its wings and a visit to the Tea plantations is a dream come true for any tea connoisseur. The tea estates are mainly located in the regions of Assam, Darjeeling and Nilgiri in Tamil Nadu. A tour of tea gardens is an enlightening experience and includes visiting tea plantations, Tea processing factories, to learn about what goes on to make the cuppa so special. Assam
Assam Tea is famous all over the world. In Assam, tea estates are located both in the Brahmaputra as well as the Barak plains. Scenic Tea gardens numbering more than 2500 can be spotted in the districts of Dibrugarh, Sibsagar, Jorhat, Tinsukia, Sonitpur Golaghat and Nagaon. Assam accounts for more than half of the tea produced in India. A visit to the Tea gardens of Assam is a tour par excellence.
Darjeeling
in Darjeeling tea is grown in 85 tea gardens in highlands located at the foothills of the Himalayas. Nilgiri tea
In Nilgiri also known as the land of Blue Mountains tea is grown at a height of 1000 meters to 2500 meters above sea level and produces a black tea that has connoisseurs all over the world. In the tea estates of Nilgiri , tea is grown all year round. So a visit to the tea gardens of Nilgiri amidst the surreal ambience, lush greenery and a salubrious climate is an experience that is sheer magic.
